A few random thoughts...
Got slammed with a bad bug yesterday. Made it out for a really fun dinner with an old, dear friend from San Francisco and his friends and MBA classmates, but felt much worse this morning.
So it was a day in bed with Angie taking care of me and making me chicken soup. Just got back from the doctor's and it seems I have tonsilitis. I'm on antibiotics and hope to be all better by Thursday when we fly. Angie's been a saint, putting up with my general helplessness and sickly attitude.
Talking with Jamie and his friends, it occurred to me that there's a lot about day to day life here in China that is not apparent to those who aren't here. Jamie's always got a lot of great ideas, and a lot of energy and curiousity, so we spent a lot of time talking about methods of payment and e-commerce here. Thinking back over that this morning, I think I'll try to start posting more about day to day life: things like the jiaotong card, potable water, long distance calling, the subway, etc... Should be interesting as a kind of time capsule of social history that I'll look back at in a few years, but could also help those who are thinking about moving out here or bringing business ideas out here.
But for now, a little soup, maybe a little work on my essays for school and then a good night's rest.

Tate Modern
Last one for today. Back to my essays. I thought this piece by Dan Graham was interesting; what is private, what is public, when are we watching, when are we watched?

Holborn Night
Stuck my head out of the hotel window to grab this shot of a typical London street.
One of my great pleasures in London was listening to British rock while walking back from the LSE. Each day I'd pick an artist, Bowie, The Stones, Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin... on this particular day it was the Kinks, and for the walk home before this pic, it was Waterloo Sunset:
Every day I look at the world from my
window
Chilly, chilly it's evening time.
Waterloo sunset's fine.
Millions of people, swarming like flies round Waterloo Underground,
but
Terry and Julie crossover the river where they feel safe and sound.
And
they don't feel afraid as long as they gaze on Waterloo Sunset
They are
in Paradise.

Pics from London
Here's the first of a few pics from my recent trip to London for TRIUM. Sorry nothing from the LSE, just a few random shots from my one day off.
Two Sundays ago, Josh and Sarah took me through a day in their life. We had a fry-up near Josh's flat, then walked down to St. Paul's, before crossing the Thames for a visit to the Tate Modern.
This is a shot of St. Paul's Cathedral as we approached from a set of new office buildings that surround it.

beautiful day
Absolutely stunning day. Sunny with a light breeze. You can see it on the faces of everyone on the streets. I'm out at the Coffee Beanery next to Angie's office - the TV station. Took a few pics but I forgot the dongle and will have to post later.
Except for the loads of work I need to do, looking forward to my first weekend back in Shanghai...
